Event Date: Saturday, 03 May 2025
Join the Green River Greenbelt Task Force (GBTF) for a one-of-a-kind celebration on Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m. at the Skyline Trail Parking Lot on Upland Way. This exciting event, “A First Hike, Bike & Invoice Burning Celebration,” marks a major milestone for the community and honors an extraordinary act of generosity.
The highlight of the event will be a ceremonial burning of the invoice for the construction of the Skyline Trail, a symbolic gesture of appreciation and achievement. Originally set to be built by Searle Brothers Construction with donated equipment and operators (costs covered only for fuel and materials), the Skyline Trail became fully gifted to the community when Searle Brothers waived all fees in January 2024. This remarkable donation—estimated at over $1 million—was made possible in part by a $100,000 grant from the Dustin Shilcox Foundation and the selfless support of Searle Brothers.
After the invoice burning, attendees are invited to hike or bike the Skyline Trail:
Reach the quarter-mile marker and receive a free commemorative t-shirt, thanks to generous event sponsors.
Complete the full 4-mile trail and earn a spot in a raffle drawing for great prizes.
Not up for the hike? Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase onsite.
The Skyline Trail is a barrier-free, multi-use, non-motorized trail designed with accessibility in mind—most of it is navigable by specially designed wheelchairs. It begins on Upland Way, climbs South Hill, winds along the ridge overlooking the Green River Valley to the breathtaking “Top of the World,” and descends to Western Wyoming Community College – Green River Campus.
Spanning 4 miles with a gentle grade (under 12% for all but 100 yards), it offers scenic views and an inclusive outdoor experience for all.
